On March 27, Luc Brewaeys’ Eighth Symphony was performed in its complete version for the very first time, 22 years after its initial creation and 10 years after the composer’s passing.
Based on his sketches, his student and friend Annelies Van Parys took on the challenge of completing the final movement of this impressive work, featuring a rich and inventive orchestration (notably in the percussion and winds, including tuned water-filled bottles), and drawing inspiration from Beethoven’s Eighth Symphony, also on the programme.
