A Night at the Opera with Rolando Villazón
The Franco-Mexican opera star Rolando Villazón enchants audiences worldwide with his phenomenal vocal control and unparalleled charisma. Known as “the most charming of today’s divos” (The Times) with “a wonderfully virile voice ... ‘grandezza’, elegance and power” (Süddeutsche Zeitung), Villazón is one of today’s most versatile artists.
Rolando Villazón got his big break in 2005, when he sang Alfredo alongside Anna Netrebko (Violetta) and Thomas Hampson (Germont) in La traviata – staging by Willy Decker at the Salzburg Festival. In the years that followed, he performed all the leading roles for tenor in opera houses such as the Wiener Staatsoper, the Opéra National de Paris, the Metropolitan Opera in New York and the Milanese La Scala. He became a real darling of audiences everywhere.
As intendant of the Mozartwoche, he has recently been focusing more and more on Mozart, both on and off stage. His most recent role? The bird catcher Papageno (Die Zauberflöte) at New York’s Metropolitan Opera!
