The Belgian National Orchestra performs at the prestigious Kurhaus in Wiesbaden with a programme entirely dedicated to Beethoven.
Beethoven takes center stage in his native Germany for this concert. The Coriolan Overture, composed in 1807, musically expresses the tragic hero's inner conflict: impetuous chords represent Coriolanus’s unwavering will, while softer themes reflect his doubts and humanity.
Composed in 1809, during the Napoleonic occupation of Vienna, the Piano Concerto No. 5, known as the "Emperor", radiates with noble spirit and serene grandeur. Here, the piano does not simply converse with the orchestra; it reigns supreme. The piece will be performed by the young and promising American pianist Lauren Zhang.
The Fourth Symphony, often overshadowed by its more monumental counterparts, charms with its classical clarity and subtle humor, hiding an astonishingly rigorous structure beneath its surface.
