CC Hasselt celebrates its 50th anniversary! In honour of this special occasion, the Belgian National Orchestra will play a jazz-inspired programme with no fewer than three Belgian soloists, who will each treat us to a rarely performed concerto. The conductor on duty is the promising young Martijn Dendievel, who won the Deutscher Dirigentenpreis in 2021.

The Concertino in Jazz for Harp and Orchestra, performed by the well-known harpist Anneleen Lenaerts, is a work by the Belgian jazz violinist, composer, arranger and band leader Emile Deltour. For a long time he was artistic director of the Belgian branch of the music label DECCA. As the conductor of his own studio orchestra, he recorded with Edith Piaf, Maurice Chevalier and La Esterella, among others. The Concertino in Jazz is one of his more classical works, written in the 1930s, for a harpist who taught at the Brussels Conservatory.

Clarinettist Roeland Hendrickx will then perform the Jazz Clarinet Concert ‘Latin American chronicles’ by Argentine jazz musician Daniel Freiberg. He composed this concerto in 2015, at the request of the WDR Rundfunkorchester. After that, trumpeter Jeroen Berwaerts will play the five-movement trumpet concerto by Soviet-Armenian composer Alexander Arutunion, who incorporated many Armenian folk music influences in this virtuoso showpiece.
