Marcus Dawson

Musical upbringing
Marcus is an Australian born baritone currently in his first year at The Royal Danish Opera Academy studying a masters of opera. He grew up in Norway and started singing at the young age of seven when he was accepted into Norways National Broadcaster’s boys choir, Sølvguttene. This laid the groundwork for his continued study of music leading him to The Royal Academy of Music in London, U.K. under Professor Mark Wildman graduating in the summer of 2022. Currently he is studying under Professor Jens Søndergaard at the Royal Danish Opera Academy and is expected to graduate in the summer of 2024.

Upcoming engagements 
Marcus is debuting in the role of Masetto in The Royal Danish Opera Academy’s production of Don Giovanni in June. He will make a performance at Odsherred’s Chamber Music Festival singing excerpts from The Pearl Fishers by Bizet and The Magic Flute by Mozart in August of 2023 and is debuting in the role of Papageno in the opera The Magic Flute with Arctic Philharmonia as part of Arctic Opera Festival in Tromsø, Norway in October 2023. In January of 2024, Marcus will be making his debut at the Copenhagen Opera House as Herolden in the Danish national opera, Drot og Marsk with conductor Michael Schønwandt, after which he will debut in the role of Lakai in the opera Ariadne auf Naxos in the Copenhagen Opera House in March and April of 2024. 

Professional Work
In January and February of 2023 Marcus took part in 32 performances of the play Amadeus by Peter Schaffer and the Danish Royal Theatre singing excerpts from a plethora of Mozart operas. During his time in London he was part of The Royal Academy of Music’s bicentennial opera, Witch, by Freya Waley-Cohen in The Susie Sainsbury Theatre, and performed the role of Gabriel von Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus by Strauss with Kings College Opera Society. He also performed the world premiere of Moon Over Maenefa for solo a cappella voice by Rhian Samuel in the occasion of The Royal Academy of Music’s bicentennial.
