A few days dedicated entirely to the Hungarian composer Béla Bartók, alongside vibrant rhythms and percussion at the Beats & Pieces Festival.
During one week, Bozar, the Belgian National Orchestra and its chief conductor Antony Hermus are turning the spotlight on Bartók. This is an opportunity to (re)discover the Romanian Folk Dances, the Dance Suite and his Violin Concerto, performed by violinist Simone Lamsma and Tcha Limberger, two experts in classical and Gypsy genres.
The cross-genre festival Beats & Pieces brings together percussion, electronic sounds, and spoken word in an four-day celebration. With percussionist Colin Currie, the Belgian National Orchestra presents two percussion concertos: Julia Wolfe’s Body Language and Louis Andriessen’s Tapdance. With striking rhythms and unexpected sonorities, these works move between marimba, timpani, clapping, and a variety of other instruments, and offer a fresh perspective on the symphony orchestra.
