Two masterpieces in one evening: Rachmaninov’s renowned Piano Concerto No. 2 alongside an exceptional performance of Stravinsky’s powerful Firebird in full.
The Firebird was Stravinsky’s first ballet and launched him onto the international stage. A true revelation, particularly for its unprecedented orchestral colors, the ballet was later adapted into an orchestral suite. This suite has become a cornerstone of the symphonic repertoire, showcasing Stravinsky’s mastery, the virtuosity of each musician, and a sound that is both dynamic, evocative, and surprisingly accessible.
Alongside it, Rachmaninov’s Second Piano Concerto remains one of the most beloved piano concertos. True to his style, the composer weaves endlessly expressive themes throughout the piece. The second movement’s theme was famously borrowed for the hit song All by Myself, sung by Céline Dion.
