Arvo Pärt writes music that slows time down. A handful of notes, a triad left to resonate, a silence that carries as much weight as the sound itself. He called the style tintinnabuli, after the ringing of bells. That is how the jazz world came to know him too: in 1984, ECM launched its New Series with Tabula Rasa, featuring Keith Jarrett on piano in Fratres.
The Belgian National Orchestra brings that world to Gent Jazz, with Fratres and Spiegel im Spiegel among the works. Under the tent, Pärt sounds from every direction, with musicians of the orchestra right in the middle of the audience.
