Costantinos Carydis


Following a new production of Bizet’s Carmen at Oper Frankfurt in June 2016, Constantinos Carydis appeared at the Salzburger Festspiele and with the Münchner Philharmoniker. In January 2017 followed another new production, Händel’s Serse at Oper Frankfurt.

In 2017/18 Carydis returns to Bayerische Staatsoper, this time with a new production of Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro. He also returns to the Salzburger Festspiele for a new production of Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte with the Wiener Philharmoniker. Other engagements this season include the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, WDR Sinfonieorchester, and on tour with the Mozarteumorchester Salzburg.

Previously he worked with orchestras such as Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester, Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, Bayerisches Staatsorchester, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Bamberger Symphoniker and Luzerner Sinfonieorchester.

As an opera conductor, Constantinos Carydis has a close working relationship with Bayerische Staatsoper and Oper Frankfurt, he also led productions at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Wiener Staatsoper, Staatsoper Berlin, de Nederlandse Opera, Komische Oper Berlin, Opéra de Lyon and at festivals such as Edinburgh International Festival, Hellenic Festival in Athens, Enescu Festival in Bucharest and Settimane Musicali di Ascona.

Constantinos Carydis was born in Athens. He studied music theory and piano at the Athens Conservatory and completed his studies in conducting at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich. In 2011 he was awarded the Carlos Kleiber Prize by the Bayerische Staatsoper.
