1. The Audition

Timetable:

  • The candidates are divided into groups. Everyone will be assigned an individual application time via e-mail during the week before the audition.
  • The audition starts at 10h00

1st round : 

1st mouvement of Mozart’s Concertos NN 3, 4 or 5.  (without the cadenza.)

 

2nd  round 

a) 1st mouvement of one of the romantic concertos (with cadenza)

Tchaikovsky , Brahms ,  Sibelius ,  Beethoven 

 

b) Orchestral solo

2. Regulations 

2.1 registration:

Candidates can apply for the audition through Muvac. 

 

2.2 process of the audition:

The Chairman of the jury is the Music Director.

The order of the program is determined by the jury the day of the audition.
All rounds are eliminating.

The Belgian National Orchestra reserves the right to spread the audition over several days in the event that the different rounds cannot be completed in one day (e.g. due to high number of registered candidates).


2.3 piano accompaniment during the audition:

The orchestra provides a pianist-accompanist for the candidates throughout the different rounds of the audition.


 

3. Employement conditions

The candidate taking up the position has to be laureate of the audition and fulfill the general conditions for admission. Non-EU candidates have to comply with the laws of immigration. The candidate is recruited on the basis of fulltime employment (100%) with salary based on scale S02 (scale 1st soloist-sectionleader, job title: 1st soloist sectionleader). The laureate who takes up the position is offered a fixed-term contract of minimum 6 months to maximum 12 months. After this period and after a positive evaluation at the end, a renewal of the contract (unlimited term) can be proposed. 

The candidate works closely with the section leaders, all other members within the section and all their colleagues that are employed at the Belgian National Orchestra. He/she interprets and performs all orchestral parts for 2nd violin, among which solo’s, and contributes to an outstanding performance. Whenever the section leader is not available he/she assures the coordination within the own section during rehearsals, performances and recordings to make sure the section functions the most optimal way. He/she assures the leadership and exemplary behavior that comes with the function. He/she takes part in auditions and acts as a coach for occasional academy students or occasional additional players within the section.
