Works by Benjamin Britten, David Friedman, John Stevens, Oskar Böhme, Leonard Bernstein, Antonín Dvořák, George Frideric Handel

Four musicians of the Belgian National Orchestra join forces with as many young instrumentalists for a vibrant family concert. On stage are two energetic percussionists and six enthusiastic brass players. Together they perform a light-footed programme with short works highlighting specific instruments and/or combinations of instruments. Well-known tunes and music yet to be discovered alternate.

The concert opener is a piece written for three trumpets: Benjamin Britten's Fanfare for St Edmundsbury. Marimba and vibraphone are featured in a Carousel composed by Dave Samuels and David Friedman. After that, look out for the Trompeten-Sextett by German romantic composer Oskar Böhme, composed for horn, cornet, two trumpets, trombone and tuba. Work by Bernstein in a new arrangement by Belgian National Orchestra pianist Nico Schoeters and a chorale by Stijn Aertgeerts - who plays the tuba in this concert - provide some surprising moments. A jazz standard, a Slavic dance by Dvořák and a daring crossover between baroque and swing jazz guarantee that you and your family will leave the hall in good spirits!
