Josep Vicent

Josep Vicent is a Spanish conductor who has rapidly built a reputation as an outstanding artistic personality. His highly energetic, personal and accurate versions of all-time classics to modern repertoire have enabled him to conduct top international ensembles. During the 14/15 season he has conducted international and national orchestra like: London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, “La Orquesta Filarmónica de Málga”, “la Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León”, Paris Chamber Orchestra,” La Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Chile” among others ; and leading a show in collaboration with Guy Caro (Cirque du Soleil) as well as a collaboration with La Fura des Baus.

He started his extensive career as a soloist and Artistic Director of the “Amsterdam Percussion Group”. He also worked with The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and was Artistic Director of Amsterdam’s Xenakis-Festival and Festival Nits de la Mediterrània in Spain.

Since Josep Vicent’s appoinment as Principal Conductor, The World Orchestra has done 17 tours in four continents and performed in halls like Vienna’s Konzerthaus, Berlin Philharmonie, Beijing’s National Centre for the Performing Arts and Palau de Les Arts Valencia and has carried out extensive diplomatic work, promoting international co-operation through music.

Josep Vicent has recorded more than 30 albums, a collection of classical and contemporary repertoire for Deutsche Grammophon, Virgin Records, Columna Música, Etcetera Records and Composer’s Voice. His recording of The Rite of Spring by Stravinsky was chosen Best Classical Album of the Year in Spain in 2009. He is currently recording Michael Nyman’s Symphonies “integrale” with London Symphony Orchestra and The World Orchestra.

In 2010 he performed his own works at the UN Global Summit in Geneva presided over by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon. He has conducted many world premières like the first staged version of Astor Piazzolla’s Opera María de Buenos Aires and the Spanish première of Les Mamelles de Tiresias by Poulenc. His operatic repertoire in European theatres includes Rossini, Stravinsky, Montsalvatge, Massanet and Schostakovich among others.
