LIEBRECHT VANBECKEVOORT (°1984) has been the protagonist of a new generation of Belgian pianists over the past decade. From 2002 to 2009 he studied with renowned pianists and pedagogues such as Jan Michiels (Brussels), Menahem Pressler (Bloomington), Russell Sherman (Boston) and Elissó Wirssaladze (Munich). In October 2014, he was appointed guest professor at the LUCA School of Arts in Leuven (B).
Liebrecht made his international breakthrough in 2007, when he became a laureate at the prestigious Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition, being awarded both public prizes from VRT/RTBF radio and television channels as well.
As an official ‘Steinway Artist’, he has performed worldwide in major concert venues in the Benelux, France, Spain, the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Ireland, Italy, Israel, China, South Africa, Canada and the United States. He played at various music festivals in Belgium and abroad and he was the exclusive ‘classical star’ at the ‘Night of the Proms’ concert tour 2007 in Belgium.
As a soloist, Vanbeckevoort has performed with first-class orchestras, such as the Belgian National Orchestra, the Brussels Philharmonic, the Royal Flemish Philharmonic, the Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia, the Royal Symphonic Band of the Belgian Guides, the Cologne Academy, the European Union Chamber Orchestra, the Cracow Philharmonic, the Anhaltische Philharmonie Dessau, the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra Durban, l’Orchestre National d’Ile de France a.o. under the baton of distinguished conductors such as Goodwin, Herreweghe, Hr?ša, Judd, Levi, Mazzola, Tabachnik, Varga, Weller and Zollman. His solo repertoire includes all Beethoven works for piano with orchestra (5 concertos, Triple concerto and Choral Fantasy), as well as major romantic piano concertos by Mendelssohn, Schumann, Chopin, Brahms, Saint-Saëns, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff a.o.
Liebrecht Vanbeckevoort is a passionate and accomplished chamber musician. He regularly shares the concert stage with internationally renowned artists such as Jef Neve, Severin von Eckardstein, Thomas Blondelle, Ning Kam, Justus Grimm and France Springuel. He is also a member of the Roeland Hendrikx Ensemble.
In 2015, he was appointed artistic director of the festival “Klassiek Leeft Meesterlijk” in Knokke-Heist (B), an international summer festival focusing on the rich and large repertoire of chamber music.
Up to now, Liebrecht has recorded six albums, featuring the two piano concertos by Franz Liszt with Brussels Philharmonic and a live recording of Rachmaninov’s 3 rd piano concerto. His first albums are dedicated to piano solo repertoire by Mendelssohn and Schumann. A sixth album, featuring Mozart chamber music works, was recently released on the Et’cetera Records label in December 2015.
Furthermore, he was invited to record a Liszt piano recital for the Belgian television channel ‘Canvas’ in the ‘Liszt year’ 2011. His recordings were internationally critically acclaimed and are broadcasted by radio and television channels both in Belgium and abroad.
Liebrecht Vanbeckevoort is a proud ambassador of famous Belgian fashion brands like Guy-David Men’s Tailor, Strelli.Homme, Ambiorix shoes and Theo Eyewear, wearing their original creations on the concert stage.
